Carlsbad, NM has an elevation of approximately 3,295 feet (1,004 meters) above sea level. The city is located in the southeastern part of the state and is known for its Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which includes over 100 limestone caves and is located roughly 18 miles southwest of the city. The surrounding region is mostly desert and the topography is characterized by mesas, valleys, and canyons.
